The Marjorie B. Turnbull Spanish Language And Culture Scholarship Program scholarship was established by William F. O'Brien in memory of Marjorie B. Turnbull, and is administered jointly by the Office of International Programs and the Department of Romance Languages & Literatures.

The goal of the Turnbull Scholarship is to provide Binghamton University students with travel grants to foster the learning of Spanish language and culture (with  primary focus on Spain). Recipients are selected on the basis of Spanish language  proficiency, interest in cultural exploration and understanding of Spain or other Spanish speaking countries.

Eligibility
Participation in a credit bearing study abroad program in a Spanish speaking country; preference is granted to programs in Spain. Preference will be given to Spanish majors then minors and to students who have completed SPAN 215 and SPAN 250.

Applicants with less language proficiency must explain how they plan to achieve the goals of the scholarship program with the language skills they have, and what their goals are for learning the language after their time abroad. The application essay should demonstrate how the applicant will actively participate in the language and culture of Spain (or other Spanish speaking country). The applicant must be a sophomore, junior, or senior at Binghamton University at the beginning of the program.

Students must complete a study abroad program application before funds will be distributed. Students participating in a non-Binghamton program should complete a "Study Abroad -Other SUNY Program" application.
