Program Description:
The Myers Family Scholarship is funded by the Shamrock 5 Foundation. This scholarship has been established to increase access to study abroad for Binghamton University students. Scholarships in the amount of $1,500 are available. Binghamton University students with a GPA of 2.7 or higher who are participating on a Binghamton or other SUNY sponsored program in the summer, fall, winter, or spring terms are eligible to apply.

In order to be eligible for this scholarship, students must demonstrate financial need through the Binghamton University Office of Financial Aid. If you are not sure if you will demonstrate financial need, please consult with an Financial Aid counselor before applying.

This scholarship is given to students historically underrepresented in study abroad and exchange. Beyond the requirement for all to demonstrate financial need, preference for recipients includes:

  • Pell Grant recipients
  • first generation college students
  • students with disabilities
  • members of minority communities within the United States
  • veterans
  • non-traditional students
  • STEM majors
  • Students who have never traveled abroad before
This scholarship is applicable to students who demonstrate financial need who are going to be studying any study abroad program that qualifies for academic credit, regardless of location, use of language, and length of time. Qualified applicants are chosen based on consideration of academic merit and financial need.

*Upon return from their study abroad experience, recipients will be expected to serve as mentors or peers to encourage and guide others students who wish to study abroad. Students who spend their last semester abroad using a Myers Family Scholarship may complete this requirement by offering peer assistance to students interested in study abroad via email and phone.

Please contact the Office of International Programs with any questions regarding this scholarship and your eligibility. Click the "Apply Now" button at the top of the page to get started. The application is fairly simple, requiring that you answer some basic questions and provide a brief essay statement.

Students must complete a study abroad program application before funds will be distributed. Students participating in a non-Binghamton program should complete a "Study Abroad -Other SUNY Program" application.
