Education Abroad Ambassador Program
Weekdays from noon-4pm, our office offers walk-in advising with staff members and ambassadors. The Education Abroad Ambassadors team is composed of students returning from their academic and internship experiences abroad. Ambassadors are trained to provide advice to students beginning their education abroad plans or facing the challenges of pre-departure before leaving Binghamton. The Ambassador Program fosters the professional development of students recently returned from a study abroad experience. The program specifically offers these students an opportunity to volunteer their time to assist in education abroad advising for students who are thinking about studying abroad. Each ambassador is required to hold 1 to 2 walk-in advising hours per week. During this advising hour, the ambassador is located in the main office area and helps any students that walk in for study abroad related needs.
Ambassadors also spend approximately 1 hour per week to help with promotion of education abroad in general on main campus and/or the University Downtown Center by giving presentations, tabling and attending other university events. Experience as an ambassador offers returning students with an opportunity to enhance their resumes through learned skills such as communication, team work, and accountability. The program also provides for continued learning and development as ambassadors reflect and articulate their experiences abroad.
The ambassadors are a highly enthusiastic group of students with a shared passion for study abroad. Ambassadors build community through monthly meetings, which provide continued training and the opportunity to get to know members of the Education Abroad staff.
Education Abroad Ambassadors are required to commit one full academic year to the position. We are no longer accepting applications for the 2016-2017 year, however you should contact Amber Jennings, Education Abroad Advisor: firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions or would like to express your interest in applying for 2017 - 2018!
