Weekdays from 12pm-4pm, the Office of International Education and Global Initiatives (IEGI) offers walk-in advising with staff members and ambassadors. The Education Abroad Ambassadors team comprises students returning from their academic and internship experiences abroad. Ambassadors are trained to provide advice to students beginning their education abroad plans or navigating the predeparture process before leaving Binghamton.

The Ambassador program fosters the professional development of recently returned education abroad students. The program specifically provides these students with a volunteer opportunity to assist education abroad hopefuls through peer advising. Each Ambassador is required to hold one to two walk-in advising hours per week. During this advising hour, the ambassador is located in the main office area and helps any students that walk in for education abroad related needs.

Ambassadors also spend approximately one hour per week to help with promotion of education abroad on main campus and/or the University Downtown Center by giving presentations, tabling, and attending other university events. Ambassadors may enhance their resumes through learned skills such as communication, team work, and accountability. The program provides for continued learning and development as Ambassadors reflect and articulate their experiences abroad.

The Ambassadors are a highly enthusiastic group of students with a shared passion for education abroad. Ambassadors build community through monthly meetings, which provide continued training and the opportunity to get to know members of the Education Abroad staff.  Education Abroad Ambassadors are required to commit one full academic year to the position.
