Scholarships & Financial Aid
Federal and New York state financial aid may be applied to the costs of Binghamton and other SUNY study-abroad programs, if eligible. For more information about how to finance your education abroad, and the steps to take, click here. For general financial aid information, including Office hours, click here. Note: Financial aid counselors are available M-F 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the academic year, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. during winter and summer. No appointments needed.
Financial Aid is not applicable to all non-SUNY programs; meet with an advisor in IEGI office immediately if you’re considering a non-SUNY program and need financial aid.
ScholarshipsThere are many scholarships available that are specially designated for education abroad programs. Some are based purely on merit, while others consider merit but are based on financial need. Scholarship application deadlines are strictly adhered to and are similar to those of education abroad application deadlines, which are usually around the middle part of the semester before the program begins. Applicants need not be admitted to programs in order to apply for scholarships, but receipt of scholarships is conditional upon acceptance into the education abroad program.
Applications should be prepared with attentiveness to the eligibility requirements and criteria for selection. Your best writing and best presentation are essential for a chance of a successful application. Some scholarships require letters of recommendation. Plan ahead and allow your references ample time to write on your behalf.
